Jagan (22), a first-year student of a private polytechnic college, ARJ Polytechnic College, at Edyarnatham near Mannargudi suffered injuries when he was attacked by his senior students in the guise of “ragging” on the campus on Tuesday.
Mr. Jagan was admitted to a private hospital at Thanjavur.
According to Mr. Jagan, he joined the ARJ Polytechnic College in the Electrical and Electronics course.
When he went to the college on the first day on Monday a group of three students abused him. On the next day, three more senior students joined them and they asked him to prostrate. Mr. Jagan refused to oblige them.
When Mr. Jagan was waiting at the bus stop near the college on Tuesday, the six students intercepted him and robbed him.
When he wanted the money back, they allegedly attacked Mr. Jagan with logs. He suffered ligament fracture in the hands and bruises at the back. He was rushed to Government Hospital at Mannargudi, from where he was later shifted to private hospital at Thanjavur.
The police registered a case against the six senior students on a complaint lodged by Jagan and are on the look out for them.
